Cash Mob

“I guess we’re having everybody in town coming in.”

You’ve heard of a flash mob, right? It’s when a group of people come together suddenly in a mall or park or some such public place to perform, usually a quick dance, and then disappear as quickly as they appeared. But have you ever heard of a “cash” mob? The grocery store in Treynor, Iowa (population 898) was hit by one earlier this month, and that’s a very good thing.

A Treynor community group sent emails to local residents and encouraged them to show up at the grocery store the second Saturday in February and spend at least $20. The store opened last fall, and the group thought it would be a good way for the town to show its appreciation. It was. Boyd Blasi, manager of the store, said it looked like everyone in town was coming in to shop. He was delighted at the extra sales and touched by the town’s gratitude. This is one mob any store would be tickled to do business with.

Video: I found the video that goes with the “I Believe She’s Amazing Flash Mob photo I used above. I couldn't get the YouTube video to embed, but click on the link below and it'll take you to the video. Pretty cool stuff . . .
