Happily Ever After

“It’s a shame people in life can’t get along better like the goose and the donkey.”
Barbara Kirk, Bozeman, Montana

Once upon a time there lived a donkey, a goose and a little old lady on small farm near Bozeman, Montana (population 37,280). They were very good friends.

The goose used to have a goose partner, but she was killed by a marauding raccoon. The goose was lost without his partner and wandered about the farmyard. Until one day he struck up a friendship with the donkey named Dixie.

Dixie was a friendly donkey and liked everyone she met, but soon there was a special connection between Dixie and the goose. They ate, strolled and even napped together. They were inseparable.

Barbara Kirk, owner and friend of the donkey and the goose, isn’t surprised by the unlikely couple. Ms. Kirk believes animals often pair up in unexpected ways, but humans are just too busy to notice.

Wouldn’t it be nice, ponders Ms. Kirk, if humans were more like animals? Then perhaps they could see past their differences like race, religion and politics, and become friends. And all could live happily ever after.
